Golden Homes West Coast sells homes from Langebaan and Saldanha to Vredenburg, Paternoster and St Helena Bay, and down the coast to Yzerfontein and Darling. Andre Bredenkamp opened the branch in March 2025. Andre is also the principal of Golden Homes Midrand, which has sold more than 550 homes since 2007, so the West Coast branch has a long track record behind it. Buying on the West Coast from far away

Many of the homes we sell here go to buyers who live inland, often in Gauteng, and can’t fly down for every viewing. We’re used to that. We send video walk-throughs, check the things you’d check yourself, and keep you updated until the keys are in your hand. Langebaan is about 120 km from Cape Town on the R27, and Cape Town International Airport is a short drive further.

A coast with a long history

Vasco da Gama landed at St Helena Bay in 1497, the first European to set foot on this coast. The French once stored whale oil and seal skins on Schaapeneiland in the lagoon, and Langebaan itself was founded in 1922 and ran as a whaling station until the 1960s. A harpoon gun still stands outside the municipal buildings. The town allows no industry, so it has kept its feel as a fishing, holiday and retirement village.

• Langebaan. The lagoon town, with secure estates such as Langebaan Country Estate, Long Acres Country Estate, Blue Lagoon and Calypso Beach, and older homes in Myburgh Park with views over the water.
• Club Mykonos. The Greek-themed resort area, with a marina, a casino and restaurants, and new homes in estates such as Villa Del Mare.
• Saldanha and Vredenburg. The working towns of the coast, with the port, schools, the private hospital and the main shops.
• Paternoster and Jacobsbaai. Whitewashed fishing villages with sea views, popular for holiday homes.
• St Helena Bay, Shelley Point and Britannia Bay. Estates and village homes on the bay, from St Helena Views and Lampiesbaai to the golf and nature estates at Shelley Point.
• Yzerfontein, Velddrif and Darling. Smaller towns along the coast and inland, each with its own character.

• Things to do
• Langebaan Lagoon. About 17 km of protected salt-water lagoon, and one of the best places in the country for kitesurfing, sailing, kayaking and paddleboarding.
• West Coast National Park. More than 300 bird species, the spring flowers at Postberg from August to September, and whales in October and November.
• Kraalbaai. Clear water and white sand inside the national park, with houseboats moored in the bay.
• West Coast Fossil Park. Fossils from millions of years ago, near Langebaan.
• Langebaan Mussel Festival. On the first weekend of October every year.
• The monthly craft market. Local crafts and art in Langebaan, with art exhibitions all year round.
• Golf. Langebaan Country Estate’s course, and the golf estate at Shelley Point.
• Schools

Langebaan has three private schools: Curro Langebaan, Longacres Private School and Topolino. Vredenburg and Saldanha have public primary and high schools.

• Hospitals
• Life West Coast Private Hospital in Vredenburg has 61 beds, an emergency unit with a doctor on call around the clock, a maternity ward, ICU and neonatal ICU, and CT and MRI scans.
• Langebaan Day Hospital and the Langebaan medical centre handle everyday care.
• Shopping and eating out

Laguna Mall and the Nautica centre in Langebaan cover everyday shopping, and Vredenburg has the bigger shops. For a meal out, there’s Taverna Oceanis and Kapstadt Brauhaus at Club Mykonos, and seafood all along the coast.
