Golden Homes Boksburg South

Boksburg South covers the southern side of Boksburg in the City of Ekurhuleni, from Dawn Park and Windmill Park to Vosloorus, with Sunward Park on one side and Elsburg on the other. The N17 is a few minutes away, and Johannesburg is about half an hour’s drive. A first home in Boksburg South

Most of the homes we sell here are first homes. Prices are lower than in the north of Boksburg, so a young family can often buy a freestanding house with a yard for less than a townhouse costs in the north. New houses are still going up in Windmill Park.

Where to live in Boksburg South

• Dawn Park. An established, family suburb with freestanding houses, townhouses and a few flats. Dawn Park Primary, Dawn Park Secondary, a clinic and Dawn Park Shopping Centre are all inside the suburb.
• Windmill Park. Freestanding, full-title homes on a growing estate of new extensions, with a children’s play park. Developments such as Willow Estate sell new two and three-bedroom houses.
• Villa Liza, Klippoortje, Vandykpark and Mapleton. Smaller suburbs around Dawn Park, with freestanding family homes at entry-level prices.
• Vosloorus. One of the largest townships on the East Rand, home to more than 160,000 people, with a big choice of houses under R1.3 million.
• Reiger Park. A long-established community next to Boksburg’s older suburbs.
• Sunward Park. Where Boksburg South meets the green north, with gated estates, townhouses and its own private hospital.
• Elsburg. A small, established town on the Germiston side, with affordable houses and flats, its own primary and high school, and the N17 about 4 km away.

• Dawn Park: R550,000 to R1.55 million / R550,000 to R720,000
• Windmill Park: R780,000 to R1.2 million / few on the market
• Vosloorus: R495,000 to R1.25 million / few on the market

• Sunward Park: R1.9 million to R9 million / from about R980,000

How the area grew

Elsburg is one of the oldest towns on the East Rand. It was laid out in 1887 on the farm Klippoortjie, and after the Anglo-Boer War its owner, Commandant Johannes Els, divided his land among the men who had fought under him and lost everything. For a time it was even talked about as the capital of the goldfields. Vosloorus was established in 1963, when families were forcibly moved from Stirtonville, which later became Reiger Park. Today the area is still growing, with new extensions going up in Windmill Park.

Schools in Boksburg South

Dawn Park Primary and Dawn Park Secondary are inside Dawn Park. Windmill Park Primary and Windmill Park Secondary serve Windmill Park, and Sofunda Primary, Sofunda High School and Sindi Primary are close by. On the Elsburg side, there’s Elsburg Primary and Elsburg High School, and Sunward Park High School is a short drive away.

• Netcare Sunward Park Hospital, the nearest private hospital, about 7 km from Dawn Park.
• Tambo Memorial Hospital, a government hospital in Boksburg.
• Dawn Park Clinic and Dawn Park Medical Centre for everyday care.
• Life Roseacres Hospital and Germiston Hospital, about 6 to 7 km from Elsburg.

Shopping and weekends

Dawn Park Shopping Centre has groceries, clothing and family restaurants such as Spur and Panarottis. Sunward Park Lifestyle Centre, Kingfisher Corner and Parkrand Piazza are a short drive away, and Elsburg residents shop at Lambton Court. For weekends, there’s Dennis Malan Park for picnics, Vosloorus Stadium for sport, and Bokkie Park and Wild Waters within about 25 minutes.
