About Golden Homes Germiston

Golden Homes Germiston works the southern half of Germiston in the City of Ekurhuleni, from the town centre and Lambton down to Delville, Dinwiddie, Elsburg and Roodekop. Our Primrose branch looks after the northern suburbs. Yvonne van Wyk founded Golden Homes Germiston on 1 February 2013, and the branch has sold more than 400 homes since then. Gilbert Zulu, principal in training, manages the branch with a team of five. If you’re buying or selling south of the railway line, Gilbert is the person to call.

Where gold, rail and Germiston began

Germiston is older than Johannesburg’s suburbs and has the gold to prove it. Prospectors struck gold on the farm Elandsfontein in August 1886, and the Scot John Jack and the German August Simmer started the Simmer and Jack mine. The town took its name from the Jack family farm near Glasgow. The Rand Refinery opened here in 1921 and grew into the largest gold refinery in the world. Germiston also became one of Africa’s busiest railway junctions, which is why the town still works hard and moves fast. Lambton grew in the early 1900s as the town’s leafy residential side, and it’s kept that character since.

  • Where to live in southern Germiston
  • Lambton. Our best-known suburb in the south, with big established homes on large stands, newer cluster developments and flats. It’s close to Germiston Lake, Rand Airport and the golf club.
  • Delville and Dinwiddie. Older suburbs next to Lambton with solid family houses, townhouses and flats. Delville also has large multi-room houses that investors buy as rooms to let.
  • Germiston Central, South and West. The older town suburbs, with flats and character houses close to the station, offices and shops.
  • Parkhill Gardens, Simmerfield and Webber. Smaller suburbs between Lambton and the lake, with freestanding homes and a few newer estates.
  • Elsburg. A small, historic town on the southern edge, with affordable houses and flats and its own primary and high school. Our Boksburg South branch sells here too.
  • Roodekop and Rondebult. Affordable family homes near the N17 and the R554, many of them first homes. Roodekop also has a large industrial area.
  • Wadeville, Driehoek and Elandsfontein. Mostly industrial, with factories, warehouses and the Rand Airport side of town. Ask us if you’re looking for commercial property here.
