About Golden Homes Primrose
Golden Homes Primrose works the northern half of Germiston in the City of Ekurhuleni, from Primrose, Primrose Hill and Primrose East to Sunnyridge, Wychwood and the suburbs towards Edenvale. Our Germiston branch looks after the south of the town. Yvonne van Wyk co-founded Golden Homes Primrose on 1 January 2000, and the branch has sold more than 1,300 homes since then. Lynette Roets-Lizemore manages the branch. If you’re buying or selling in Primrose or the streets around it, Lynette is the person to call.
A suburb built on gold
Primrose was laid out in the early 1900s, when the gold rush brought miners and their families to Germiston. Today about 14,000 people live in Primrose, and it’s one of Germiston’s best-known family suburbs. It sits close to the N3 and the R24, so Johannesburg, Bedfordview and OR Tambo are all within easy reach.
- Where to live in northern Germiston
- Primrose. The main suburb, with family houses, townhouses and flats on established, tree-lined streets. Primrose Primary and Hoërskool Primrose are both in the suburb.
- Primrose Hill. Bigger homes on the higher ground, from three-bedroom family houses to large properties with more than one home on the stand. It also has plenty of two-bedroom flats.
- Primrose East and Primrose Park. Smaller suburbs with freestanding three and four-bedroom family houses at prices first-time buyers can reach.
- Sunnyridge. A close-knit suburb with family homes, a few larger properties and its own primary school, which opened in 1953.
- Wychwood and Marlands. Established suburbs between Primrose and the town centre, with houses and townhouses.
- Highway Gardens and Solheim. Highway Gardens is a boomed, access-controlled area near the R24. Solheim has townhouses, family houses and apartments with views towards Bedfordview and Johannesburg.
- Klopperpark and Buurendal. Family suburbs on the Edenvale side, with Klopperpark Primary, Hurlyvale Primary and Curro Edenvale close by.

- Germiston Lake. A few minutes south, with picnics, dog walks, canoeing, rowing and sailing at the Victoria Lake Club.
- South African Airways Museum. At Rand Airport, you can walk around two retired Boeing 747s. It’s open Tuesday to Sunday.
- Rondebult Bird Sanctuary. A good spot for a morning of birdwatching.
- Germiston Golf Club. An 18-hole woodland course, played for more than a century.
- JP Bezuidenhout Park. Sports fields on the Buurendal side, with Horwoods Farm and digzBEACH volleyball nearby for the children.
- Paintball City. For a family day or a birthday party.
- Schools in Primrose and surrounds
Primrose Primary and Hoërskool Primrose are both in Primrose, so children can walk to school from many streets. Sunnyridge Primary opened on 1 January 1953 with 190 learners and celebrated 70 years in 2023. On the Edenvale side, there’s Klopperpark Primary, Hurlyvale Primary and Curro Edenvale, and Germiston High School is a short drive south.
- Hospitals
- Life Roseacres Hospital is in Symhurst, Primrose, on the corner of Castor Road and St Joseph Street. It has 128 beds, a 24-hour emergency unit, a maternity ward and intensive care for adults and newborns.
- Bertha Gxowa Hospital, Germiston’s government hospital, is in the town centre.
- Life Bedford Gardens Hospital is a short drive away in Bedfordview.
- Shopping and eating out
Primrose Mall on Rietfontein Road covers everyday shopping in the suburb. Meadowdale Mall is close by, and Eastgate, Bedford Centre and Eden Mall are all a short drive away for bigger shops, cinemas and restaurants.
